SirVocea Dennis did not practice on Thursday, October 1, with a calf injury, according to the Buccaneers' official injury report for Week 4. He was limited on Wednesday, so the step is backward, and Sports Illustrated also lists him among the Bucs who sat out Thursday (Buccaneers.com, Sports Illustrated).
Key facts
- SirVocea Dennis did not practice on Thursday, October 1, with a calf injury after he was limited on Wednesday, September 30 (Buccaneers.com, October 1).
- Josiah Trotter went the other way on the shoulder injury, from limited on Wednesday to a full participant on Thursday (Buccaneers.com, October 1).
- Dennis and Christian Rozeboom shared the inside linebacker snaps in Week 3 while Trotter was out, according to Todd Bowles (Yahoo Sports, September 25).
- The 0-3 Buccaneers host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, October 4, at 1:00 PM ET, 19:00 CEST, on FOX (Buccaneers.com).
- Rookie Jalon Daniels makes his first NFL start because Baker Mayfield is out with a right thumb injury (Buccaneers.com, October 1).
His status for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers has not been announced. The final report of the week, with game designations, follows on Friday.
Dennis and Trotter go opposite ways
The linebacker room moved in two directions on Thursday. Josiah Trotter, who was limited on Wednesday with his shoulder, was a full participant (Buccaneers.com). That is the better news for the position: Trotter missed the Vikings game with the same shoulder, and Dennis and Christian Rozeboom shared the inside snaps in his place, as Todd Bowles said at the time (Yahoo Sports, September 25). Our Trotter report from Week 3 has that background.

The rest of the report
Dennis was one of several Bucs who did not practice on Thursday. Quarterback Baker Mayfield (right thumb), tight end Ko Kieft (elbow), edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. (groin and shoulder) and cornerback Jacob Parrish (personal) also did not participate. Wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. (ankle) and edge rusher Yaya Diaby, who was limited with a calf and shoulder issue, were back on the field (Buccaneers.com). Our Godwin update has his week so far.
What comes next
Tampa Bay, 0-3, hosts the Packers at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, October 4, at 1:00 PM ET, 19:00 CEST, on FOX. Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels makes his first NFL start with Mayfield out; read more in Jalon Daniels from undrafted to QB2. The how to watch guide covers Europe, and the depth chart shows the current linebacker order.
A first-time quarterback needs a defense that gets him the ball back, and the middle of that defense is where the picture is least settled. Trotter's return to full practice helps, Dennis's calf is the open question, and Friday's report will say which of them lines up on Sunday.
