Parrish and Killebrew still limited on Thursday, and the Browns lose their top cornerback from practice

Two days into Week 2, the Bucs' report is unchanged where it matters: Parrish and Killebrew limited, McMillan and Tucker full. Cleveland's list got worse.

Updated Friday, September 18, with Thursday's practice report. Friday's report, with the game designations, follows once it is released.

Key facts

  • Cornerback Jacob Parrish (back) and safety Miles Killebrew (concussion) were limited participants for the second straight day on Thursday, September 17.
  • Jalen McMillan (knee) and Sean Tucker (hamstring), both inactive at Cincinnati, were full participants on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson did not practice on Thursday for a veteran rest day, not an injury.
  • Browns cornerback Tyson Campbell (ankle), who played every defensive snap in Week 1, did not practice on Thursday after carrying no designation on Wednesday.
  • Browns guard Teven Jenkins (back) did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday; tackle Dawand Jones (head) went from limited to full.

Two practices into Week 2, the Buccaneers' injury report has barely moved, and that is mostly good news. The two players who missed the opener are still practicing in full, the two defensive backs who were limited on Wednesday are still limited, and the only new name on Thursday's list was a scheduled day off. Across the field, Cleveland's report went the other way.

Thursday: Parrish and Killebrew limited again

Jacob Parrish practiced on a limited basis for the second straight day with the back sprain he suffered at Cincinnati, the injury that sent Benjamin Morrison into the game at outside cornerback. Todd Bowles said Monday that Parrish's X-rays and MRI were clean and that it was a matter of getting over the soreness, and back-to-back limited sessions fit that description: on the field, not yet at full speed. Whether he starts against Cleveland or Morrison gets a second look comes down to Friday's designation.

Safety Miles Killebrew, a core special teams player, was limited again as he goes through the concussion protocol. Two limited sessions are a normal stage of that protocol, but his availability for Sunday depends on clearing its remaining steps, not on a coach's decision. If he does not clear, practice squad safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, who was elevated for the Bengals game, is the obvious call-up.

Defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson did not practice on Thursday, listed as a veteran rest day. He carried no designation on Wednesday and is not injured.

McMillan and Tucker: two full days

Jalen McMillan (knee) and Sean Tucker (hamstring) were both inactive for the opener. They were full participants on Wednesday and again on Thursday, which is as clean a run-up as the report allows. McMillan's return matters most: he is listed as a starting wide receiver on the Week 2 depth chart alongside Chris Godwin Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, and Tampa Bay played its opener with Tez Johnson and Kameron Johnson filling that third spot. Tucker is the third running back behind Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell and the first kick returner on the depth chart, a job Gainwell and Kameron Johnson covered in his absence.

Christian Rozeboom (foot) and Justin Skule (oblique), limited through most of the Bengals week, were full on both days.

The Browns side

Cleveland's report is more concerning for Cleveland, and Thursday added the biggest name on it. Cornerback Tyson Campbell, who played every defensive snap in the Browns' 34-10 loss at Jacksonville, did not practice with an ankle injury after carrying no designation on Wednesday. Guard Teven Jenkins (back) did not practice for the second day in a row. Centers Elgton Jenkins (back) and rookie Parker Brailsford (thumb) and defensive tackle Maliek Collins (quad) were limited again. Tackle Dawand Jones, who left Wednesday's session with a head injury, was upgraded to full. Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (wrist) and guard Zion Johnson (knee) were full both days.

For a Browns offense that gave up five sacks at Jacksonville and has already lost third-down back Dylan Sampson to injured reserve, a front five with a starting guard sidelined three days before kickoff is not the week Deshaun Watson needed. And if Campbell cannot go, a Cleveland secondary without much depth at cornerback gets Baker Mayfield, Godwin, Egbuka and, on two full practices, McMillan at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET (7:00 PM CEST).
