Rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter was added to the Buccaneers' injury report on Friday, October 16, with a knee injury. He was limited in practice and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers (Buccaneers.com, Yahoo Sports). Pewter Report also flagged him as an unexpected addition to the final report.

Key facts

  • Josiah Trotter (knee) was added to the Buccaneers' injury report on Friday, October 16, as a limited participant and is questionable for the Steelers (Buccaneers.com, October 16).
  • Trotter was not listed on the Wednesday or Thursday reports (Buccaneers.com, October 16).
  • He has started three of the four games he has played, with 40 tackles, a sack and an interception returned for a touchdown (Yahoo Sports, October 16).
  • SirVocea Dennis (ankle/foot) is also questionable after moving from limited to full on Friday (Buccaneers.com, October 16).
  • Kickoff against the Steelers is Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 PM ET, 19:00 CEST, on CBS (Buccaneers.com).

What the report shows

Trotter did not appear on the Wednesday or Thursday reports, so Friday is the first time the knee shows up this week. The team has not said how he hurt it.

Why it matters at linebacker

Trotter has played four games this season and started three of them, with 40 tackles, a sack and an interception returned for a touchdown, according to Yahoo Sports. The touchdown came in Week 1, as we covered in Trotter's pick six at Cincinnati. He also missed Week 3 against the Vikings, which we reported in our Trotter update from that week.

Dennis is the other question mark in the middle. He moved to full participation on Friday after two limited days, which is a good sign for his availability, but his status is still questionable. Earlier BucsWorld reports name Christian Rozeboom as the inside linebacker depth behind Alex Anzalone and Trotter (see the Week 5 injury report). The Bucs have not said who would play if both Trotter and Dennis sit. The depth chart has the full group.

The rest of the Bucs report

The injury list is long. Baker Mayfield (right thumb), Antoine Winfield Jr. (rib) and David Sills V (hamstring) are out, and Benjamin Morrison (quad) is doubtful. Ayden Garnes and Sean Tucker are questionable alongside Trotter and Dennis. Our full Week 6 injury report has every line for both teams.

What comes next

Kickoff at Raymond James Stadium is Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 PM ET, 19:00 CEST, on CBS. The inactives come out about 90 minutes before the game, which is when Trotter's status becomes final. See how to watch from Europe for the options by country.

Trotter only appeared on the report on Friday. With the secondary and quarterback room already thin, the Bucs can least afford to lose another starter in the middle of the defense. Watch the inactives list first.
